Star Wars Galactic Racer Best Vehicle: 4 Classes Compared
Star Wars Galactic Racer best vehicle picks by skill and planet: Landspeeder, Speeder Bike and Skim Speeder compared, plus where the Podracer fits in.
Editorial update · Source publication dates are listed below · Independent fan guide
The Landspeeder is the best vehicle to start with in Star Wars Galactic Racer, and the Skim Speeder has the highest ceiling once you can hold its lines. Launch-week guides do not agree on a single ranking: KeenGamer puts the Landspeeder first, while other rankings put the Skim Speeder on top. Where they agree is on what each class is good at.
The four classes at a glance
The class identities come from the official StarWars.com vehicle guide; the strengths and weaknesses are from KeenGamer’s October 7 comparison.
| Class | Signature technique | Strength | Weakness | Campaign availability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Landspeeder | Drift | Durability | Raw speed | Available from the start |
| Speeder Bike | Kinetic Burst | Acceleration | Armour | Unlocks second (10 Tuning Points) |
| Skim Speeder | Knife Edge | Top speed | Acceleration | Unlocks last (20 Tuning Points) |
| Podracer | Airbrake | Extreme speed | Fragility | Story events, Arcade and online podracing only |
Landspeeder: the safest first pick
The Landspeeder is the default campaign class and the one most guides hand to new players. It absorbs hits well and its drift is forgiving. IGN’s reviewer made the same choice, preferring landspeeders for predictable handling and durability at 03:21 of the October 2 review.
Its limit is pace. KeenGamer notes that it leans on Ramjet boosts to keep up on long straights. That is also why it ranks first there: durability keeps you alive in contact-heavy races, and staying alive protects League Tokens.
Speeder Bike: acceleration with no armour
The Speeder Bike’s Kinetic Burst stores energy while you slow into a corner and releases it on the way out. Kotaku describes it more simply as a turbo boost when exiting a drift. It is the quickest class off the line.
It also has very little armour, so one bad collision can end the race. Guides that recommend it for intermediate players assume you already know where each track’s hazards are. If you main the bike, the upgrade priorities move Resilience up the list.
Skim Speeder: highest top speed, hardest to learn
The Skim Speeder is new to Star Wars with this game. It has the highest top speed of the three campaign classes and the slowest acceleration, and its Knife Edge manoeuvre rolls the vehicle onto its side for sharp corners. Over-rotating costs speed.
Kotaku’s short version is that it hits hard on straights and turns poorly. Rankings that put it first are rewarding that ceiling: once momentum is held through every corner, nothing else in the campaign is as fast. One launch-week guide to the finale calls it the sweet spot between resilience and cornering at speed.
Podracer: fastest, most fragile, and separate
The Podracer is the fastest and most fragile class, with ramjets for speed and an airbrake for tight turns. It is not part of the campaign loadout. The campaign assigns it during specific story events, and the developer FAQ confirms podracers cannot be customised.
To practise, use Arcade or the online podracer modes, which run up to 8 racers instead of 12. Kotaku adds that podracing events sit in the Arcade section and that you can drive Sebulba’s podracer by talking to him at camp during a Tour.
Best vehicle by skill level
| You are | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New to the game | Landspeeder | Readable handling and the most forgiving durability |
| Comfortable with the tracks | Speeder Bike | Acceleration pays off when you already know the corners |
| Chasing the fastest runs | Skim Speeder | Highest top speed, if you can keep momentum |
This is KeenGamer’s breakdown, and it matches how the classes unlock. You can test the two locked speeders in Arcade, which uses preset vehicles, before spending Tuning Points on them.
Best vehicle by planet
Planet hazards shift the answer. KeenGamer’s per-planet picks are:
| Planet | Suggested class | Reason given |
|---|---|---|
| Jakku | Landspeeder | Boosts overheat faster there |
| Ando Prime | Skim Speeder | The cold extends Ramjet use |
| Lantaana | Speeder Bike | Tight jungle corners, and water that slows Ramjet heat |
| Sentinel I | Landspeeder | Durability against acid corrosion |
You cannot swap class mid-Tour to follow this table. The loadout class is chosen at the start of a Tour and can change again only when a run ends; at planet stops you can customise all three vehicles, but you keep racing the one you picked. Read the table as a guide to which Tours suit which speeder. The planets guide has more on each location.
Why there is no single answer
The rankings disagree because they weigh different things. A list built around surviving the campaign favours the Landspeeder. A list built around lap time favours the Skim Speeder. The official vehicle guide does not rank the classes at all.
A useful way to choose: if your Tours end because you wreck out, move toward the Landspeeder; if they end because you finish too far back, move toward the Skim Speeder. Then follow the beginner tips for the habits that matter in any class.
